Privacy policy

This policy covers the kurajapan.org website and the KURA connector (the MCP server at https://mcp.kurajapan.org/mcp) that AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude use. KURA is operated by KURA (operator to be confirmed). Questions: info@kurajapan.org.

The short version

  • KURA is a read-only information service. It answers questions about buses, restaurants and facilities in the Echigo-Yuzawa / Minamiuonuma corridor. It does not take bookings or payments.
  • The website sets no cookies and runs no advertising or tracking scripts.
  • If you connect KURA to an AI assistant, you sign in so that we know who is calling. We log each request (who, which tool, what was asked, when) for 90 days, then it is deleted automatically.
  • We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising.

Website (kurajapan.org)

The site is static pages. We do not set cookies, use analytics, or embed third-party trackers. Our host, Vercel, processes the technical data any web server needs to deliver a page (such as your IP address and browser type) and keeps it in short-lived server logs under its own privacy policy.

The KURA connector (MCP server)

When you add KURA to an AI assistant, you sign in through our sign-in provider, WorkOS, with Google or a one-time code sent to your email. WorkOS keeps your account record (email, name if Google provides one, and sign-in times). KURA receives a signed token containing a user ID and your email address. KURA never sees your password.

For each request your assistant sends to KURA we record:

  • your KURA user ID and email address;
  • the tool used (for example search_places) and its arguments, which is what the assistant asked, such as a place name, area, date or time; we keep the first 1,000 characters;
  • the time, how long the request took and whether it succeeded;
  • which app made the request (for example claude.ai or ChatGPT) and its version, from the app's client details and user-agent header.

We do not store your IP address in KURA's usage log. We do not receive the rest of your conversation with the assistant: only the arguments of the KURA tool call it chooses to make. Your assistant's provider (for example OpenAI or Anthropic) handles your conversation under its own privacy policy.

Partners such as hotels or travel apps that call KURA from their own systems use a partner key. For those requests we log the partner's name, not the identity of the partner's end users.

Why we collect it

  • To run the service and keep it reliable (rate limits per user, error investigation).
  • To prevent abuse, such as scripted sign-ups or bulk copying.
  • To learn which questions travellers ask, so we know which facts to verify and update first.
  • To contact you about your use of KURA if you write to us.

How long we keep it

  • Request logs: 90 days, then deleted automatically.
  • Your KURA user record (email, first and last use, last app used): deleted automatically after 90 days without use.
  • Request counts per user and per tool: kept, without your email address.
  • Server logs at our host (one line per request: user ID, tool, status, time): kept for the host's short log retention period.
  • Your WorkOS sign-in account: until you ask us to delete it.

Who processes it, and where

KURA uses these service providers. Their servers may be outside Japan, including in the United States:

  • Vercel Inc. (USA): website and connector hosting.
  • Upstash, Inc. (USA): request logs, counts and rate limits.
  • WorkOS, Inc. (USA): sign-in.
  • Google: sign-in, if you choose "Sign in with Google".

We share personal data with no one else, unless the law requires it.

Businesses that send us updates

Restaurants, hotels and transport operators can send KURA corrections by phone, email or our LINE official account. We keep those messages to check and record the change, with the date and how it was confirmed. Messages may be read with the help of an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) to draft the change, and a person reviews every change before it is published and every reply before it is sent.

Your choices and rights

You can stop using the connector at any time by removing it in your AI assistant's settings. To see, correct or delete what KURA holds about you, email info@kurajapan.org from the address you signed in with. We will delete your sign-in account and your request history within 30 days; anything we cannot delete (for example short-lived host logs) expires on its own.

KURA is not intended for children under 16.

Changes

We will post any change to this policy on this page and update the date below. Last updated: 2026-10-19.
